- The research investigates the effectiveness of using collaborative strategic reading on students‟ reading skills. The research conducted based on the statement of problems: 1) how is Effectiveness of Collaborative Strategic Reading on students reading ski lls? 2) Was there any effectiveness of using Collaborative Strategic Reading on students‟ reading skills for eight grade of SMP N 7 Kota Serang?. This research oriented the following aims: 1) To know how the effectiveness of Collaborative Strategic Readin g (CSR) on students‟ reading skills. 2) To find out whether there is effectiveness of using Collaborative Strategic Reading (CSR) on students reading skills for SMP N 7 Kota Serang. The researcher collected 80 students spreading in two classes, one class is experimental class and another one is as the control class. By applying quasi experimental research method. The population is the eighth grade of SMPN 7 Kota Serang year 2017/2018 and the researcher takes sample from VIII G as the experimental class an d VIII H as the control class. T he results of the research shows that the value of to (t observation) is bigger than t t (t table). It can be seen from to :t t = 4. 12 > 1.6 6 in degree of significance of 5% and to : t t = 4. 12 >1.29 in degree of significance of 1%, or 1.6 6 < 4. 12 >1.29. So, the alternative hypothesis (H a ) is accepted and null hypothesis (H o ) is rejected. It means there is significant effect of using collaborative strategic reading skills. The c oncluded t hat Collaborative Strategic Reading gave the influence increasing students‟ reading skills. It is also suggested to the English teacher to apply English teacher of Junior High School are suggested to use Collaborative Strategic Reading as an alternative strategy in teaching reading skills which it have proven that collaborative Strategic Reading can impact effectively in improving students‟ reading skills.
