  • T he title of this research paper is “The Effectiveness of free writing strategy in developing student’s writing skill (An Experimental Research at second Grade of SMP N 1 Carita ) . This research conducted based on the statement of problems, 1) How is students’ free writing ; 2) How the influence of experiential learning strategy on student’s free writing . This research oriented to the following aims, 1) To investigate h ow the student’ s free writing ; 2) To explore influence of experiential learning strategy on student’s free writing . To answer questions above, the writer collected data from 66 students spreading in two classes, each class has 33 students. One c lass as experimental group, and another one is control group. This research used an experimental. The population was 66 students of the second grade of SMP N 1 Carita . The writer took sample from 8a class as control group, and 8b class as experimental group . The data was gathered through pretest and posttest because the writer used experimental method. Based on the result, the writer got mean pretest sc ore 31.76 and posttest 46.6 from control class. While from experimental class the writer got mean pretest 42.86 and mean posttest 7 1 . The score of experimental class increase on 28.14% it is better than control class students with increase on 14,9%. Accord ing to the data, the score of t 0 (t observation) 8 . 41 is higher than t t (t table) 2.0 0 . It means that using experiential learning strategy gives the si gnificant influence in teaching writing . Finally, it is was suggested that English teacher should have appropriate method in teaching English and be more motivated in order to make teaching and l earning process more enjoyable
