- The research investiga tes the effectiveness of reciprocal strategy toward students’ reading comprehension of narrative text and in this research conducted based on the statement of problem 1). How is students’ reading comprehension? 2). How is effect of Reciprocal strategy toward students’ reading comprehension of narrative text? the aim of this research is 1). To know the students’ reading comprehension of narrative text 2). To know the effect of Reciprocal strategy toward students’ reading comprehension of narrative text. The method is used in this research is quasi experimental method by using t - test, to find out the significant difference in the students’ reading comprehension between the experimental class and control class throug h the score of pre - test and post - test. The research conducted in the second grade (VIII) of SMPN 2 Petir as the population as many as students and class VIII C consist of 34 students and VIII D consist of 34 students as the sample.The result of the researc h shows that using reciprocal strategy has significant effect on students’ reading comprehension. it can be seen from the result that researcher has got the mean of pre - test 53,52 and post - test score 68.35 from the experimental class and the pre - t est score is 47,76 and post - test score is 56,70. The writer got = 5,97 df = 66, 5% = 1,99. It mean (alternative hypothesis) of the research is accepted that there is significant improvement of using reciprocal strategy to im prove reading comprehension of narrative text. From the result of the test, it can be concluded that the reciprocal strategy has effect to improve students’ reading comprehension and also can be applied in teaching learning process to improve stud ents’ reading comprehension of narrative text.
