  • This research is designed to find out the effectiveness of the PQ4R strategy in teaching reading comprehension. The research conducted based on the main problem: 1) How is the students’ reading comprehension ? 2) How is the implementation of PQ4R strategy in teaching reading? 3) How is the effectiveness of PQ4R strategyin reading comprehension?. This research oriented to the following aims: 1) To know the students’ reading comprehension. 2) To know the implementation of PQ4R strategy in teaching reading. 3) To know the effectiveness of PQ4R strategyin reading comprehension. This research use experimental research. To answer the questions, the writer collected the data from 71 students spread in two classes, one class as an experimental class and another one as a control class. The population is 〖 8〗^th grade of SMPN 1 Petir , while class C as the experimental class and class D as the control class are taken as the sample. The result of the research shows that the hypothesis, that the null hypothesis is accepted its showed from statistical value that significant 5% = 2,00 and significant of 1% = 2,65 and the resulst of t_0 = 3,06. Based on the calculating of the data of t-test it showed the effectiveness of pq4r strategy of teaching reading comprehension. Finally, it was suggested that English teacher should have approriate method in teaching English and be more motivated in order to be easier for the students in learning reading comprehension.
