- The book of "Tafsir al-Mishbah" as a Quranic interpretation, when viewed from the aspect of Its writing has can be named as a al-Tafsîr al-Tahlîlî, whereas in the methodology aspect of the interpretation is more condensed using rules of the thematic interpretation in the chapter (al-tafsîr al-mawdlû'î fî al-sûrat). Quraish Shihab's view of hermeneutics is more conservative than the orientation of his social studies in Qur'anic interpretation.
