PGV-0 has the antioxidant capacity, but undergoes first-pass metabolism when given via oral administration. To increase its effectiveness, PGV-0 is formulated into transdermal preparations. Due to its poor solubility in water, PGV-0 can be prepared into solid dispersion systems with polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP) to enhance its solubility. This study aimed to formulate PGV-0/PVP solid dispersion into hydrogel matrix preparations. Three formulae using chitosan-agarose-PVP polymers as the bases were prepared by varying the amount of PVP. Evaluation is carried out on organoleptic properties, weight, thickness, pH, moisture content, moisture uptake, folding endurance, and drug content. In vitro penetration tests were carried out using Franz diffusion cells.
