  • The study was aimed to determine the population density and size distribution of mussels (Corbicula sumatrana Clessin ) in the waters of Tanjung Mutiara Singkarak Lake West Sumatra. The study was conducted by survey method and purposive stratified sampling technique in June 2013. Samples were taken at three stations, each station was divided into three depth strata < 5m, 5 - 10m , > 10 - 15m, in each stratum 3 samples were collected by using a tool: shells catcher (dauah). The results showed that the population density of mussels at Station I and II are significantly different at the third station, which was the highest density at Station III (average 113.65 ind/m2) and lowest was at Station II (average 7.69 ind/m2). Densities of mussels in each depth stratum was significantly different, the highest in stratum >10 – 15 m (average 71.05 indv/m2) and the lowest in stratum < 5 m (average 28.18 indv/m2). Length dimensions of mussels were ranged from 9.37 to 29.80 mm. At three locations and three stara mussels are most commonly found are medium size mussels (10-20 mm) ranged from 65-82 %, followed by large size mussels (> 20 mm) ranged from 18-30 % and the least are small sized mussel (< 10 mm) ranged from 1-2 %.
