- A study on development of extended release verapamil HCl tablet for prolonged gastric residence by swelling and floating system using hydrophilic polymers methylcellulose (HPMC 4000 cp dan 15000 cp) had been done. The tablets were prepared by direct compression and granulation method. Result showed that tablets could swelled and anated in 10 hours in medium HCL 0,1 N solution. In vitro dissolution test which was carried out in medium HCL 0,1 solution showed that the use that the hydroxypropil methylcellulose polymers 4000 cp and 15000 cp in concentration 0f 20-40 could sustained the release of verapamil HCl from tablet which followed first order kinetics and the higuchi model.
