- The central nervous system depressant activity of the ethanolic extract af Connarus grandis leaves has been evaluated by using the prolongrng sleeping time of barbiturat and anti convulsion methods. [n this study the ED50 of pentobarbital in mice was reduced by 10 mg/tg body weigh extract from 29.A6 to 23.18 m/kg.The extract prolonged the sleeping time of mice induced by several level doses of pentobarbital (p < 0.01) while the oncset of sleeping was not significantly affected (p>0.01). Connarus grandis leavese Kract was also protected mice from convulsion indued by 2 mgkg bw strychnine nitrate but not by 100 mdkg pentetrazol. The CPDstr 50 of 47.50 mdkg and the DPDstr 50 of K.1A m/kg. Thus, the ethanolic extract of Connants grandis leave acted upon the inhibitory nervous system mediatedby glycine.
