- The steam distillation of essential oil of leaves of daun sirih (Piper betle L.) has been done. The antimicrobial activity of the essential oil was tested by using agar diffusion method. It was found that at the optimum dose (2.5 ml/paper disc) the zone diameter of inhibitory growth of Micrococcus luteus, Bacillus subtilis, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Escherchia coli were 20.5, 11.7, 13.0, 12.7 mm respectively. The inhibition of the growth of tested fungi Candida albicans and Trichophyton mentagrophytes were 15.3, 21.0 mm respectively. Keywords : antimicrobial test, essential oil, Piper betle
