- Teratogenic effect of Ruta graveolens L. extract on white mice has been investigated. The extract was given orally at doses of 125.250 and 500 mg/kg BW commencing on day 6 until 15 of pregnancy. Laparactomy was perform on day 18th of pregnancy and followed by eviscerating two third of the fetuse with red alizarin solution and the others were hardened in Bouin’s fixation solution. The experiment showed that the extract at the doses of 125,250 and 500 mg/Kg BW influenced body weight of mouse and fetus significantly, but not the number of fetuses. The doses of 500 mg/Kg BW caused abortion. Malformation such as absorption site observed on the doses of 500 mg/Kg BW, and the loss of eyelid, pinnae, syndactyl and tail curling at the dose of 250 mg/Kg BB.
