  • One of the important steps to support and make the community members aware of the purpose of Family Planning is through Communication, Information and Education (CIE). Basically, the CIE is a method to assist in decision making in choosing the contraceptives. It is expected that through the CIE, the knowledge about how to choose the contraceptives can be improved that the drop-out rate can be minimized and the continuation of Family Planning membership can be developed. The purpose of this quasi-experimental study with re-treatment design was to analyze the influence of the effectiveness of CIE with lecturing method and leaflet media on the decision making of married women in reproductive age in choosing the contraceptives. The samples for this study were 41 married women in reproductive age and through purposive sampling technique, they were grouped into three groups – lecturing method intervention group, leaflet media intervention group, and control group. Each group lecturing method and leaflet media consisted of 14 married women in reproductive age. Control group consisted of 13 married women in reproductive age.The data for this study were obtained through questionnaire distribution. The data obtained were analyzed through Wilcoxon test at α = 0.05. The result of Wilcoxon test showed that before intervention with lecturing method was conducted, the average of decision making done by the respondents was 41.66 %, and after the intervention it increased to 56.18 % (p = 0.001); and before intervention with leaflet media was conducted, the average of decision making done by the respondents was 35.47 %, and after the intervention it increased to 67.38 % (p = 0.001). This means that statistically it is known that the CIE with lecturing method and leaflet media had influence on the decision making done by married women in reproductive age in choosing the contraceptives with p < 0.05 (p = 0.001). There was no CIE influence in the control group in the decision making to choose the contraceptives with p > 0.05 (p = 0.068). In implementing the CIE on the contraceptives, the health workers of Puskesmas are suggested to use lecture method and leaflet media.
