Bank Sumut as the local autonomy fittings in the field of banking functions as the activator and the driving force of the acceleration of development in the provincial or district/municipal level, as the cashier who saves the money of local government, and as one of the sources of original locally-generated revenues through its activity as Public Bank as regulated in Law No.10/1998. The organizational structure of PT. Bank Sumut has changed a lot including the change of its officials and staff that many of them do not know how to implement their duties; therefore, motivation and training are intended to improve the performance of the employees. The purpose of this study was to find out and analyze the influence of motivation and trainings on the performance of the employees of the Head Office of PT. Bank Sumut Medan. The hypothesis of this study was that motivation and trainings had a positive and significant influence on the performance of the employees of the Head Office of PT. Bank Sumut Medan. The population of this study was 228 persons and 70 of them were selected to be the samples for this study based on Slovin formula. The data obtained were analyzed through multiple linear regression tests, F test and t test at the level of significant 95% or α =0.05. The result of F test showed that, simultaneously, motivation and trainings had a significant influence on the performance of the employees of the Head Office of PT. Bank Sumut Medan with p = 0.000 and R Square = 73.0% which means that 73.0% of variation of dependent variable (performance) can be explained by both independent variables (motivation and training) and the remaining 275 is explained by the other independent variables such as education, discipline and so forth which are not included in this study. The result of t test showed that, partially, motivation and trainings had a positive and significant influence on the performance of the employees of the Head Office of PT. Bank Sumut Medan and the variable of motivation had more dominant influence on the variable of the performance of the employees of the Head Office of PT. Bank Sumut Medan.
