  • The title of this dissertation is “The Language Choice and Language Attitude of Language in the Political Communication by the Local Political Parties in Aceh Administration.” This dissertation is based on the finding of field reseach conducted in Bireuen District and City of Langsa. This study focused on language choice and language attitude by local political parties in political communication in The Aceh Administration and how language choice and language attitude are related to social cohesion in the political communication among the local political parties in Aceh Administration. The population of the samples for this study was the officials of local political parties who represent their parties in the Legislative Assembly of the City of Langsa and Bireuen District. Of the six local political parties, only three parties, namely Partai Aceh (PA), Partai Bersatu Atjeh (PBA), and Partai Suara Independent Rakyat Aceh (SIRA), which were employed as the sample population. The samples population is 15 samples from the City of Langsa Legislative Assembly and 15 from Bireuen District Legislative Assembly. This study employed the theory of sociolinguistics and theory of political communication. The theory of sociolinguistics by Bernard Spolsky (2008) to look at the application of language in the political communication of the officials of local political parties in Aceh Administration while the theory of the political communication was used to look at the process of communication with its implication or consequence on political activity through the choice and attitude of Aceh Administration. The hypothesis of this study, there is no influence of the language and language attitude in the social cohesion. The result of this study is that the language chosen by the local political parties in their political communication in Aceh Administration such as in their internal party meetings, political campaign, internal interaction among the parties’ officials, communicating with community members in general, discussing political strategy, in discussing about the development and empowerment of their parties, and in communicating with the members of the same or different local political parties in the Legislative Assembly, is Acehnese (47.36%). The local political parties that chose to used BA (Acehnese) and BI (Indonesian) (code mixing) with a dominant position of BA (52.63%) when they were discussing the strategy to empower the local parties, the 2009-2014 Indonesian president and vice president election, in political communication discussing about the Governor and Vice Governor election, Head of District and Deputy Head of District election, the 2011-2016 City Mayor and Deputy City Mayor election, discussing about District and City Budget, and during the hearing session with government. The choice of language done by the officials of local political parties in political communication is mostly or dominantly based on their being proud and happy to use that language (73.60 %), their habit and fluency to communicate in that language (15.78 %), and their satisfaction (5.52%) and their being closely (5.10 %) by choice BA and BA/BI.In terms of language attitude, the officials of local political parties do agree that Acehnese functions as the ethnic identity, the identity of local political parties, as a medium to express their political ideas, as a medium of inter-community communication (66.66%). The local political parties also agree that Acehnese can spread and deliver their political messages in Aceh, Indonesian as the unifying forces of the people of Indonesia, and feel comfort using Acehnese instead of Indonesian during the party meeting (33.33%). The social cohesion is (50 %) comfortable and strongly comfortable (50 %) by choicing BA and BA/BI with BA at dominant position. Based on coeficiency, the result of language choice is 0,676 and the reason of language choice is -0,664, whereas language attitude is 0,460. Coeficiency of language choice and reason of language choice is close to -1, and coeficiency of language attitude is close to 0. So, it means that the two variables have moderate correlation. And based on significancy point, the result of language choice and reason of language choice related to social cohesion is 0,000, whereas language attitude is 0,010, Viewed from the comparison value at t-count with value of t table, t-count is 2,05 and t-table value is 1,70. It can get that the value of t-count and t table (t count 2,05 > t table 1,70). This result showed that there is a significant relation between acclamation language use, cause of acclamation language use by social cohesion t-count since value greater than t table value, and thus, this research refuse hypothesis nol (H0), and received of the alternative hypotheses (Ha) at α 0,05 or 95%.
