  • Pregnancy, childbirth and motherhood is a woman's physiological. The incident was a transitional period of life of women. Many consider that it is a process of transition of the fun of life. However, in some women, the transition is causing stress and depression causing negativity and fear and anxiety with her new life. At this time she will have a risk of physical and psychological health. Psychological disorders in postpartum mothers with postpartum depression is known. Using cross-sectional descriptive methods, data obtained by distributing questionnaires Edinburgh Postnatal Depression Scale (EPDS) to 40 mothers in the postpartum ward inpatient Obstetrics and Gynecology Hospital Dr. Pirngadi Medan. This study aims to know the description of demographic characteristics on postpartum depression syndrome in Hospital Dr. Pirngadi Medan. The results of this study indicate postpartum from 40 mothers, five of which (12.5%) experienced postpartum depression syndrome with EPDS score > 10. All respondents by age group experienced postpartum depression syndrome were an early adult age group. Based on the marital status of all respondents were married. Based on the educational experience postpartum depression syndrome were educated in college ie (60%). Based on work experience postpartum depression syndrome were work (60%). Based on the number parity experiencing postpartum depression syndrome were multiparous (80%). From this study it can be concluded that the mother had postpartum depression syndrome incidence is high. Therefore, it is advisable to have a holistic treatment which not only physically but also in terms of mental health.
