  • Background: Sleep disturbances are the most common complaint of low back pain and primary headache patients. Increasing of pain intensity could have impact on increasing sleep disturbances, such as poor quality of sleep. Objective: To find out the correlation between quality of sleep and pain intensity in low back pain and primary headache patients. Methods: This cross sectional study observed patients at Polyclinic of Neurology RSUP H. Adam Malik Medan. Sleep quality of every patient was assessed using Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index, and pain intensity using Visual Analog Scale. Results: There were 23 patients who suffered from low back pain and primary headache, where the percentage of low back pain and primary headache mostly found in women (65,2%) than in men (34,8%). The most common etiology of low back pain were spondylosis lumbalis (87%), while in primary headache were chronic tension type headache. Gamma test showed significant between quality of sleep and pain intensity in low back pain (r= 0,906; p= 0,006) and non-significant between quality of sleep and pain intensity in primary headache patients (r= 0,684; p= 0,059). Conclusions: Increasing pain intensity in low back pain and primary headache patients had an impact on the worsening of sleep quality.
