- The title of this thesis is “Analisis Puisi Pilihan Karya Penyair Li Bai Berdasarkan Gaya Bahasa” (“An Analysis of Li Bai’s Selected Poems based on Figure of Speech”). The analysis is focused on figure of speech in Li Bai’s poems in Li Taibai Ouanji. Li Bai (701-762) is the Classic Poet who lives in the period of Tang Dynasty in China. The writer only analyse the twelve poems that exist in this book. The twelve selected poems are well known and learned in common Mandarin language learning Center in Medan especially in Chinese Department at University of Sumatera Utara. The semantic theory applied in this thesis is to examine the language meaning of Li Bai’s poems. The result of this thesis shows that four most-common-use of different figure of speech found in twelve Li Bai’s poems. They are dui’ou, metaphor, hyperbole, and rethorical question figure of speeches which show Li Bai’s arrogant-self confidence-romantic and imaginative side of character. This thesis also shows that the function of each four figure of speech in Li Bai’s Poems is make the abstract things more specifically, add beauty or emotional intensity of the poem, make his poems become more interesting and touching. These four different figures of speech also show each of different character of the poet himself.
