- The research has been done about the using of low density polyethylene used as additives in the manufacture of asphalt polymers with existance of dicumyl peroxide and divenil benzene, which asphalt and LDPE used was varied. Asphalt polymer prepared by mixing the asphalt and LDPE used that is mixed together with sand aggregate was then added DCP as an initiator and DVB as a crosslinker, then the resulting mixture in extrusion at a temperature of 160 oC. The result of characterization showed that the addition of 70 g of asphalt and 30 g of LDPE used effectively in improving the mechanical properties of asphalt mixture which produced a maximum compressive strength of 4,53 MPa and percentage water absorption 0.27%. Analysis of thermal properties generate the decomposition temperature 485 oC. FTIR spectra showed the absorption of a sharp and strenght intensity at wave number 719,8 cm-1 which indicates the existence of =C-H from ethylene. The loss of hidroxyl groups from spectra mixture asphalt and LDPE which indicates the existence of chemical bonds between asphalt and LDPE. And surface structure analysis shows that different of the mixture asphalt and LDPE.
