- Introduction : The aim of this study was to know the relationship between the stages of calcification of teeth and the cervical vertebral maturity stage. Methods : A retrospective cross sectional study was designed. The final study population consisted of 70 subjects (mean age chronologis 10,63 + 1,83 years). Statistical analysis of the data was performed with SPSS windows 98. Spearman rank order test correlation coefficients were used to assess the relationship between cervical vertebral and dental maturation. For a better understanding of the relationship between cervical vertebral and dental maturation, percentage distribusions of the studied teeth were also calculated. Result : Strict correlation between dental and cervical vertebral maturation (p< 0,01 ). For males, the sequence from lowest to the highest was first premolar (r = 0,888), second premolar ( r = 0,888) and canine ( r = 0,923). For females, the sequence from lowest to the highest was second premolar ( r = 0,766), first premolar (r= 0,767) and canine (r = 0,774). Conclusion : There is a statistically significant relationship between cervical vertebral maturation and dental calcification stage. This suggest that tooth calcification stages or cervical vertebral maturation stages might be used clinical tool to determine biological age.
