- Diabetes Mellitus is a disease marked with chronic hyperglycemia resulting from reduced sensitivity of the cell to the insulin hormone. Diabetic nephropathy is a complication from diabetes mellitus. Diabetic Nephropathy is defined as a clinical syndrome on a patient with Diabetes Mellitus which is marked with albuminuria (>300 mg/24 hours or > 200 mg/ minute) minimally in twice examinations in less than 3 to 6 months. There is an increase in Diabetes Mellitus incidence in Indonesia. The design of this research is descriptive cross sectional on 366 type II diabetes mellitus patients who were admitted and outpatients in H.Adam Malik Hospital in 2009 from January until December. All the data were collected from the patient’s medical record and were analyzed using SPSS 17 program. The purpose of this research is to know the prevalence of Nephropathy in patient with type II diabetes mellitus who were admitted and outpatients in H.Adam Malik Hospital in 2009 from January until December. Based on the result of the research, there are 31 people (8,5%) with Diabetic Nephropathy and 335 people (91,5%) without Diabetic Nephropathy. Patients with Diabetic Nephropathy are mostly out patients, male, more than 60 years old, have been suffering from DM for more than 5 years and works as public municipal officers. As a conclusion, within the 366 patients with type II diabetes mellitus, 31 patients are suffering from diabetic nephropathy. It can be suggested that the hospital should give a comprehensive treatment to patient with type II Diabetes Mellitus so as to prevent further complication.
