- This research is aimed to study the chemical characteristic of Andisols on three difference downslopes in Taman Hutan Raya Bukit Barisan, Karo residence of North Sumatera. This research is being held in Taman Hutan Raya Bukit Barisan, Tongkoh Village, Tiga Panah Subdistrict, Karo residence of North Sumatera and the soil analyse properties is being held in Chemical and Soil Fertility Laboratory, Agricultural Faculty of North Sumatera University. Observation and description of there profiles of each three difference downslopes in the field is getting started on the slope of six percent, twelve percent and seventeen percent. Each profile is observed included of soil color using Soil Munsel Color, soil texture, soil structure, soil consistency, vertical distribution of root and it’s size and smeary diagnostic as one of indicators of andic soil properties in the fields, both of surface and sub horizon diagnostics and many others diagnostics, then each sample of soil profiles is kept in the plastics which has been coded. All the samples is brought to the laboratory and it is analysed included of pH H2O, pH NaF, Organic Content, Cation Exchange Capacity (CEC), Zero Point of Charge (ZPC), Phosphate Retention, Al, Fe, Si oxsalate extracted (Alo, Feo, Sio), Al pyrophosphate extracted (Alp), Al+1/2 From the result show that the chemical characteristic of Andisols on the slope of six percent has Organic Content, Phosphate Retention, Al oxsalate extracted and it’s rasio of Al:Si are the highest of all and pH HFe, and it’s rasio of Al:Si. 2O, pH NaF are lower, while CEC, ZPC, Sio is the lowest of all and it is an Andisol rich of Al. On the slope of twelve percent has pH H2O, pH NaF, CEC, Alp are the highest of all and it is an Andisols rich of Si. The last on seventeen percent has ZPC, Sio which the most highest of all, has lower both of CEC and pH H2O, while Organic Content, Phosphate Retention, Alo, Alp and it’s rasio of Al:Si are the most lowest of all and it is an Andisols rich of Si.
