- Diabetes mellitus (DM) is degenerative disease like cardiovascular that can cause disability, death, and economic losses throughout the world including Indonesia. According to data of World Health organization (WHO, 2006) there were 246 million DM patients in the world. In Indonesia (2006) there were 14 million DM patients. To know the characteristic of DM patient in RSUD. Dr. Djasamen Saragih Pematangsiantar, descriptive study has been done by using case series design. The population were 721 DM patient data, sampel were 257 DM patient data, that is chosen by using simple random sampling technique continued with chi-square test and t-test. Result of this research shows the highest number of DM patient on 2008 (187 cases) and the highest CFR (Case Fatality Rate) 0n 2007(11,4%). CFR DM on 2004- 2008 is 7,9%. The highest characteristic of DM patient is in the age 41-55 years old (39,7%), women ( 53,3%), batak ethnic (50,2%), christian (42%), high school (38,1%), PNS/BUMN (33,9%), marriage (70,4%), and in Pematangsiantar ( 59,9%), DM type 2 (96,9%), main complaint was weakness, nausea, vomiting (36,2%), with complication (55,3%), chronic complication (90,1%), hypoglycemic oral medicine (73,9%), health Assurance (65,8%), average lenght of stay (8 days),dan discharge and becoming outpatient (85,6%). There was no difference between average length of stay with DM type (p=0,295), between average length of stay with complication status (p=0,331), between average length of stay with kind of complication (p=0,483), and between complication status with age (p=0,412). RSUD. Dr. Djasamen Saragih Pematangsiantar can give information to the DM patient which discharge and becoming outpatient and completing data patients in card status. DM patient need to get medical check up and follow healthy clubs.
