- In 2007 at Medan City, diarrhea were 35.952 cases, which registered in Health Center, Government Hospital and Private Hospital, 30 of them who children under five died. At Medan Deli Sub District, diarrhea spread in its 5 village and there were 1.010 cases in Kota Bangun Village. Based on the age, the highest cases was in the age of 0-4 year group, with the number of 809 cases. This type of research was explanatory survey that aimed to explain the influence of maternal characteristics on her action of diarrhea. Population in this research were mother who have children under five who live in Kota Bangun village, Medan Deli Sub District. The number of population were 770 mothers and 89 were selected to be sample by using simple random sampling technique. Data were analized by using multiple linier regression at α=5%. Results of research showed that the variables which had influence on mother’s action of diarrhea were age (p=0.000), education (p=0.001) and knowledge (p=0.000). Variables that didn’t have influence on mother’s action of diarrhea were employment status, income and attitude. Based on the results of the research, it is expected to the health centers, particularly the responsible health prevention and eradication program to socialize diarrhea disease by improving health promotion about diarrhea.
