- Making sodium soap of 9,10,12-trihidroxy stearic acid was prepared by process of methanolisis using acid catalyst, epoxidation followed by hydrolysis using performic. Methyl ester of fatty acid and 9,10,12-trihidroxy methyl stearic was confirmed with FT-IR spectrophotometer, analyzed iodine value, hydroxy value and HLB test. The compound of 9,10,12-trihidroxy methyl stearic was safonification with NaOH. Product was corfirmed with FT-IR spectrophotometer. The Properties of soap was evaluated such as power and foam stability, free caustic alkali and surface tension. Sodium soap of 9,10,12-trihidroxy stearic acid had better foaming power than sodium soap fatty acid of castor oil and stearic acid soap. Soap had surface tension about 34,5 dyne/cm, the critical micelle concentration (CMC) at about 0,1 % and free caustic alkali was about 0,2 %, but sodium soap of fatty acid from castor oil had surface tension was about 36,68 dyne/cm, the CMC about 0,09% and free caustic alkali was 0,28% but sodium soap of stearic acid had free caustic alkali about 0,25%.
