- Sapodilla plant (Achras zapota L.) is a widely growing tropical fruit in Indonesia. Indonesian often use the fruit latex or unripe fruit to stop diarrhea. The anti-diarrhea effect probably because of a large number of tannin content in unripe fruit. The characterization of sapodilla simplex including the water content, total ash content, insoluble ash in acid content, concentrate alcohol-soluble content, concentrate water-soluble content. The phytochemical screening is use to evaluate alkaloids, flavonoids, glycoside, steroids/triterpenoids and tannin content in unripe fruit. The effect of sapodilla ethanolic extract was studied using castor oil-induced diarrhea model in mice. Sapodilla ethanolic extract was given orally at doses 1 g, 2 g, and 2.5 g/kg BW. The observations of anti-diarrhea included total number of diarrhea in mice, the consistency of the faeces, the frequency of defecacy, the weight of faeces, and the diarrhea duration. The respons which come from each mice monitored every 30 minutes during 6 hours. The characterization showed that sapodilla simplex had 15.33% water content, 1.89% total ash content, 0.91% insoluble ash in acid content, 37.45% concentrate alcohol-soluble content, 38.01% concentrate water-soluble content. Phytochemical analysis of sapodilla ethanolic extract revealed the presence of flavonoid, glycosides, and tannin. Anti-diarrhea effect of sapodilla ethanolic extract at 2.5 g/kg BW showed the same effect with Loperamide 2 mg/kg BW.
