- The research was conducted during August 2009 at the mangrove forest area in Secanggang Sub-District, Langkat District, North Sumatra Province. The purpose of this study was to examine the vegetation structure and diversity of mangrove plant species and to estimate the carbon stocks of mangrove forests at the research site. The 12 sample plots of each size 30 x 30 m were established to indentify and measure the density of all vegetation. The allometric equation was used to estimate the carbon stock for all trees 5 cm at diameter at breast height (DBH) and above. The result, show that mangrove vegetations was found 14 mangrove spesies and dominated by Avicenia alba, Rhizophora apiculata and Xylocarpus granatum. The diversities mangroves at district Secanggang (Hs’) regency are still low is 1.86.
