  • Background: Down’s Syndrome is the most common abnormality chromosome among newborns. Although many of malformations mentioned may define these children’s clinical course, congenital heart disease are conditions that have a direct influence on both the patients’ prognosis and survival, being the highest cause of morbidity and mortality during the first two years of life. This study is aimed to determine prevalence of congenital heart disease (CHD) in children with Down’s Syndrome at the RSUP H. Adam Malik Medan 2005-2009. Method: This is a descriptive study. The data were collected from medical records at Division Endocrinology and Divison Cardiology, Departement of Pediatric, H.Adam Malik General Hospital Medan. Population in this study was all the children that had been diagnosed with Down’s Syndrome from January 2005 to December 2009. The sampel in this study collected using total sampling method. From the data, had be seen whether there was CHD or not. The diagnosis of CHD was based on echocardiographic examination. All the collected data were calculated with SPSS. Result: From 82 patients, there were 43 male and 39 female. The most frequent CHD was ventricular septal defect (29%). Prevalence of CHD in Down’s Syndrome in 2008 and 2009 is 35,5% and 32%. The largest age group diagnosed CHD was 1-12 months of age (54,8%) and most were male (58,1%). Conclusion: Prevalence of CHD in Down’s Syndrome in 2008 and 2009 is 35,5% and 32%. The most frequent CHD was ventricular septal defect (29%).
