  • Cervical Cancer is the cancer with the second highest rate in Indonesian women. The mortality rate of cervical cancer has been increasing, however the rate of cervical cancer screening has been decreasing. Profile data of Bandar Khalifah Health Centre, Percut Sei Tuan subdistrict, Deli Serdang district in 2010 showed that the amount of women who used visual inspection with acetate acid test was only 36,46%, out of the 80% targeted. This showed that coverage of the utilization of visual inspection with acetate acid test have not reached the target yet as determined by the District of Health in Pilot Project of Cervical Cancer Screening. The type of research was survey with explanatory research that aimed to explain the influence of perception (perception of seriousness, perception of severity, perception benefit, perception of barrier) on the utilization of visual inspection with acetate acid test in the working area of Bandar Khalifah Health Centre in 2010. The population was all women of the reproductive age couples in the working area of Bandar Khalifah Health Centre. The sample of 100 people were taken by simple random sampling technique. Data were analyzed using multiple logistic regression test on the level of 95%. The results of research showed that variables which had influence on the utilization of visual inspection with acetate acid test for the women were perception of seriousness (ρ = 0.008), perception of severity (ρ = 0.015), perception of benefit (ρ = 0,035) and perception of barrier (ρ = 0.043). There is no variable which did not have influence on the utilization of visual inspection with acetate acid test for the women . Based on this result, it is suggested to the health centre officer in the working area of Bandar Khalifah Health Centre to increase the perception of the women about cervical cancer and the importance of cervical cancer screening by giving health education sustainably. In addition, health centre officer and the cadres as a leader in the community should be more active in expanding the service of cervical cancer screening by visual inspection with acetate acid test, so many women can access and have a chance to use this test.
