- In 2007 Medan city was ranked 5th in the overall prevalence of traumatic events (6,2%) with the prevalence of falls (61,5%) and traffic accidents (43,5%). Trauma that occurred (167%) were on the head. To determine the characteristics of head injury patients at Haji hospital in 2009 was done research with a descriptive case series design. Sample size is equal to the population that is 102 patients with head injury data (total sampling). The proportion of patients with head injury inpatients in Haji hospital highest in age 16-25 years 32,4%, male 60,8%, Batak 47,1%, Islam 89,2%, senior high school 30,4%, student 41,2 %, unmarried 59, 8%, traffic accidents cause 83,3%, severity mild 81,4%, CT-Scan 53,9%, duration of treatment’s average is 4,54 days, PBJ 45,1%, a source of own costs 71,6%. There was no difference in proportion between age and cause of head injury (p=0,521), between the sex with a cause of head injury (p = 0,468), sex with severity (p = 0,450), cause with the severity (p = 0,649), duration of treatment’s average based on the severity (p = 0,118), the source of the cost of patients with CT-scan examination (p = 0,548), age and circumstances when home (p=0,100), sex with circumstances when home (p=0,251), the cause with circumstances when home (p=0,973), severity with circumstances when home (p=0,414). There was a difference in the proportion of age with severity, (χ2=10,318, df =2, p=0,006). with the severity of CT-Scan examination (χ2=19,953, df=1, p= 0,000), duration of treatment’s average with source of cost (5,83 days vs 4,03 days, t=2,491, p=0,014). The duration of treatment average with circumstances when home (5,23 days vs 3,00 days vs 2,8 days; X2=12,800, p=0,002) Haji Hospital in order to give understanding to sufferers of long-term head injury due to reduced own request patients, public must be careful to do activity,and the police in order to encourage the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) to the driver
