  • Fish is one of the main source of protein consumed by family fishermen in Lingkungan IX. Lingkungan IX is one of the areas that almost all of its population are fishermen. This study aims to know the type, amount, frequency and contribution of fish protein needs of the fishermen in the family. This research is a descriptive study with cross-sectional design. Research population is 335 families with the number of samples of 78 people. Data were collected by using the 2x24 hours food recall and food frequency method. Results of research show that mothers level of knowledge about nutrition in general are in the category moderate (73.08%), type of fish that are most frequently consumed fish dencis (39.74%), the average amount of fish consumption (319.04 grams), frequency of eating more than 2 times a day (56.48%) and average contribution of the fish protein needs (13.18%). Based on the results, it is suggested that the mothers who are responsible for food preparation in the household can increase fish protein consumption of family and improve public knowledge about nutrition, especially the consumption of fish and its contribution to protein needs.
