  • Acute Respiratory Infection (ARI) is the most diseases affecting the children, especially baby and under five years old children. Every child was estimated suffered 3-6 times of ARI in one year period, and 40-60% visitors of puskesmas with ARI symptoms. Risk factors of ARI are included bad environmental condition and health ineligibility, like housing condition and indoor air pollution. The objective of this study was to identify housing condition: ventilation, indoor relative humidity, over crowding, indoor air pollution sources (fuel for cooking, existence of indoor smoker and using insecticide) related to ARI of under five yearsold children in work area of Puskesmas Tuntungan, Medan Tuntungan Sub district. The study design was cross sectional. The population were mother having underfive years old children, the number of respondent were 86. Data were analyzed using chi square test with 95% confidence level. The result showed that house condition (ventilation, indoor relative humidity, over crowding) and sources of indoor air pollution (fuel for cooking, existence of indoor smoker and using insecticide) was statistically significant different (p< 0.05). It is recommended to do intensive counseling of healthy housing by sanitarian, and Public Health Service.
