- Squids in the waters of Belawan obviously have been contaminated by heavy metals plumbum (Pb). To keep down the toxic effects of this heavy metals, it’s necessary do the efforts to reduce levels of plumbum (Pb) in squids. The purpose of this study was to examine the effect of various soaking solution as the effort to reduce Pb heavy metals content. Assay is carried out before and after soaking by using lime, acetic acid, and tamarind. Determination of Pb was done by qualitative and quantitative analysis. The qualitative analysis by using dithizon 0.005% at pH 7 which will be formed deep red colour. While the quantitative analysis was done by using Electrothermal Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometry method at wavelengths of 217, 0 nm. The results show levels of lead after soaking by using lime for 30 minutes and 60 minutes respectively decreased by 72.06% and 70.61% for the wet digestion method and 74.47% and 74.04% for the dry ashing method, with acetic acid for 30 minutes and 60 minutes respectively decreased by 75.00% and 75.06% for the wet digestion method and 76.99% and 77.31% for dry ashing method, and tamarind for 30 minutes and 60 minutes respectively decreased by 71.92% and 72.47% for the wet digestion method and 74.71% and 74.47% for dry ashing method. Thus soaking squid in lime, acetic acid, and tamarind are effectively reduce levels of lead (Pb) in the squid from Belawan waters.
