- Measurement of teeth mesiodistal width varied from one individual to another; also differ between one population to another. This variation is caused by genetic factor, race, sex, environment, ethnic and disease. This study is done to determined the mean mesiodistal width of the permanent dentition of maxilla and mandible, anterior and posterior arch width and the mean of Bolton analysis ratio anterior and overall dependent on ethnic (Malay, Chinese, Indian) and sex. This study is an analytical study with cross sectional design. 32 samples were chosen by purposive sampling then the study models were made from dental stone. The measurement of mesiodistal width of each tooth element were obtained using digital caliper with 0,01 mm precision. ANOVA statistical test shows that there is a significant difference (p<0,05) mesiodistal width between first left mandible premolar, while anterior and posterior arch width according to Index Pont and Bolton analysis shows no difference between the Malay, Chinese, Indian. Statistical test t-test between men and women shows a significance different (p<0,05) between first right and left maxilla premolar, left and right mandible canines and first right mandible molar while Bolton analysis ratio anterior and overall shows no significant difference. Mesiodistal width of the Malay, Chinese, Indian teeth does not show any significant difference except between first left mandible premolar.
