- The aim of this comparative quantitative research is to see the difference of husband’s interrole conflict between economic motive of working and self actualization motive of working on wives. Interrole conflict occurs when “role pressure associated with membership in one organization are in conflict with pressure stemming from membership I other groups”. Interrole conflict can be influenced by some factors. One of them is wife’s work motivation. Work courage and need to work. The motivation term used in this research was based on Wolfmaris economics need of motivation and self actualization. Respondents whose wives work for economic motive are different from those who work for self actualization motive. This research involved 100 fathers of students of An-Nizam elementary school. The respondents participated in this research were the ones who met the criteria: man and wife works outside the house, have a child/children, salary range between Rp1.500.000-3.000.000. The method used to select the respondent was the nonprobability purposive sampling. Data collected in this research was tested by using test method of analysis. Measuring instrument used is interrole conflict scale compiled by researcher. Data analysis of this research shows that there is a significant difference husband’s interrole conflict between based on economic motive of working and self-actualization motive of working on wives with value P = 4.001. Respondents whose wives work for self-actualization motive had higher mean score (x = 122.42) than those who work for economic motive (x = 111.18). additional finding of this research shows that there is a significant difference of interrole conflict based on respondents age, number of children, and youngest child’s age. The implication of this research can be used to understand the problems that cause the conflict in both working couples like husband and wife.
