- Sambiloto (Andrographis paniculata Nees) is one of nine priority traditional medicine that should be examined in a good clinical trial. The chemistry constituents consist of flavonoide and lactone. It major constituents are lactones known as andrographolide. Following an oral administration of 20 mg andrographolide, maximum plasma levels were reached after 1,5–2 hours, and half life were 6,6 hours. This compound will be widely distributed in the body. Pharmacology effect of sambiloto are as antioxidant, antidiabetic, antifertility, antiHIV, antiinfluenza, antiintraperitoneal adhesion, antimalaria, antidiarrhea, hepatoprotektive, choleretic and cholekynetic. Based on various toxicology studies in animal and human, it is confirmed that andrographolide and other compounds of this plant have a very low toxicity.
