  • Screening of soybean varieties is important to know the potential of soybean tolerance to salinity to recommended in soybean cultivation in the saline land. Preliminary screening can be performed in vitro. A study has been conducted in the Laboratory of Plant Tissue Culture, Department of Agriculture, Faculty of Agriculture, USU in January 2010 until March 2010 .. This research using completely randomized factorial design with two factors, they were soybean varieties with 20 varieties of Detam 1, Detam 2, Anjasmoro, Cikuray, Sibayak, Ratai, Ijen, Kaba, Willis, Bromo, Burangrang, Tanggamus, Gumitir, Argomulyoo, Sinabung, Panderman, Malabar, Grobogan, Seulawah, and Kawi and NaCl concentration in growing media (0 ppm, 2,500 ppm, 5,000 ppm, 7,500 ppm and 10,000 ppm). The results showed that the variety of soybean and concentration of NaCl in the growing media had significant effect on the percentage of live, high planlet, root length, root volume, leaf amount, root dry weight, root fresh weight and dry weight of canopy canopies. Interaction of soybean varieties and NaCl concentration on the growing media had significant effect on the percentage of living. Varieties tolerant to salinity is Bromo, moderately tolerant varieties is the Anjasmoro, Grobogan, Cikuray, and Tanggamus, a moderately sensitive varieties are Detam 2, Willis, Gumitir, Detam 1, Sinabung, Panderman and Malabar, and sensitive varieties are Sibayak, Ratai, Ijen, Kaba, Burangrang, Argomulyo, Seulwah, andKawi
