- Background: Date is still to be questioned whether can be consumed by diabetic patient or not, or even disturb the control of blood glucose level (BGL) Objective: To asses whether consuming date would increase the BGL. Material and Method: Study was conducted as Cross-over Clinical Crial to 22 male and 14 female diabetic patients with average of ages 60±5,5 years, who consumed oral hypoglycemic agents as many as 28 person, and 8 used insulin. We conducted 2 phases of treatment. Phase 1, 18 person was given 3 dates and the rest 1 banana. BGl were measured before and 2 hours after treatment. Phase 2 was undergone 1 week after the phase 1, where the group with 3 dates in phase 1 were given 1 banana, and on the contrary for the group with banana. BGl again were measured before and 2 hours after treatment Result: Phase 1. There was no differences between BGl before and 2 hours after consuming dates (125±28mg/dL vs 129,9±47 mg/dL)(P>0.05) either in group with Oral Hypoglicemic Agent (OHA) or Insulin. (119±27 mg/dl vs 118±29 mg/dL) (P>0.05), (149±17mg/dL vs 173±77 mg/dL) (P>0.05) respectively. The same condition was found in the group who consume banana. There was no differences between blood glucose before and 2 hours after consumption with the level respectively were (130,2±22mg/dL vs 118,9±28mg/dL) (P>0.05). BGl either in group with OHA or insulin respectively were (132±20 mg/dL vs 121±28 mg/dL) (P>0.05), (120±35mg/dL vs 107±36mg/dL) (P>0.05). Phase 2. There was no differences between BGl before and 2 hours after consuming dates (145,2±19mg/dl vs 131,9±24mg/dl) (P>0.05), either in group with OHA or Insulin. (143,2±21mg/dL vs 126,6±31mg/dL) (P>0.05), (152,1±60mg/dL vs 157±62mg/dL) (P>0.05) respectively. The same condition was found in the group who consume banana. There was no differences between BGl before and 2 hours after consumption with the level respectively were (138,4±17mg/dL vs 133,5±40mg/dL) (P>0.05). BGl either in group with oho or insulin respectively were (138,5±16mg/dL vs 128,3±22mg/dL) (P>0.05) and (137,7±20 mg/dL vs 149,7±25mg/dL) (P>0.05). Conclusion: There was no significant differences of blood glucose level between before and after consuming dates or banana, either in group with OHA or Insulin.
