- This research intents to uncover and study the concept of ma’rifah according to Ibn `Atha Allah From this research inferential that for Ibn Atha Allah h ma rifah means recognize the essence dan attribute of God truthfully. There are two kinds of ma rifah : ma rifah 'ammah and ma rifah khâshah. Ma rifah mmah means know God and recognize His existence and also sanctifies Him from everything other then Him. Marifah Khashah is ma’rifah reached by sufi through his inner heart (musyâhadah) concerning His essence, His attribute, His name and also His deed. According to him, ma rifah is one of the intention of tasawuf which is obtainable by two ways, i.e Mawâhib and Makâsib. Mawâhib (a gift from God). God gives servant directly without any efforts. He Himself chooses servants who will be given the godsend. Then, Makâsib. This way reached sufi by serious efforts through riyâdhah, mulâzamah al-dzikr, al juhd, tadharru, ihtirāq al nafs, Inâbah, shabr, syukr, ridha and others. This thesis also supports the research finding of John Renard Knowledge of God in Classical Sufism: Foundation of Islamic Mystical Theology (Paulist Press, 2004), Seyyed Hossein Nasr and William C. Chittick, World Spirituality : Manifestations (Crossroad Publishing Company, 1991), Said Aqil Siraj, Ma rifatullah andangan gama-Agama Tradisi dan Filsafat, (Elsas. 2003) Asmaran, Konsep Ma’rifah Menurut al Ghazali: Sebuah Kajian Epistiomologi, (Pasca Sarjana IAIN Sunan Kalijaga, 1990). This is a study based-library research which collected the data based on the object of study. The steps was rst collecting data from primar resources some books written b Ibn Ath All h) such as : Miftâh Al Falah wa Misbâh al Arwâh, Lath ’if al Minan fi Man qib al Syaykh bi al bb s al Mursî wa Syaykh al Syâdzilî Abî al Hasan, al Hikam, Al Qash al Mujarrad fi Ma'rifah fi al Islam al Mufrad, al Tanwîr fi Isqâth al Tadbîr, as well as some literatures written by the other schoolars and intellectuals related to this study, as the following : Taftâzâni (1968), Ibn th ll h al Sakandari wa al Tashawwufuhu. (Published Maktabah al Angl al Mishri ah Ibn jibah, Iqâzh al Himâm fâ Syarh al Hikam. (Published: Musthafâ al Bâb al Halabî wa Awlâduh), Muhammad Sa’id Ramadhân al B thī Al Hikam al- tha’iyyah : al Syarh wa al Takhlil (Published Dar Fikr Damsik, 2003) and others. Second, the available data processed and classified into parts of themes and then systematically compiled. Next it is analysed based on the applied analysis method, a descriptive-analytical method, to understand and analyze deeeply his ma’rifah concept.
