- There are still many controversial results concerning which type of tooth brush is more effective in removing plaque. This study was done to compare the effectiveness of reducing plaque among the two groups, the tooth brush group with filament's surface which are straight and multitufted. The design of this study was pre test and post test design. This study was carried out in three elementary schools. Samples are the fifth grade students, who did not wear prosthetic or orthodontic appliances of any kind. The students were divided into two groups by random sampling. The clinical scoring procedure used to assess plaque was the Turesky modification of the Quigley - Hein plaque scoring index. The results show that there is a significant reduction of the plaque index between the group before and after tooth brushing (p<0.01). There is no significant difference in plaque index reduction between the straight and multitufted filament tooth brushes (p > 0.1).
