- Abstract This study be hold to find out how effective the road widening to reduces traffic congestion and increases the road performance. Traffic flow data obtained by traffic counting on Tuesday and Thursday at peak hours. Width the Teuku Umar streets obtained by direct measurement. The data was analyzed based on MKJI 1997. Furthermore, to determine the level of service (LOS) refers to the Decision of Ministry of Transportation Area Number 16 in 2006. Before widening, Teuku Umar streets Tanjung KarangRajabasa direction had a level of service (LOS) C and the opposite direction had a level of service (LOS) C. After widening of 1,2 m, Teuku Umar streets the Tanjung Karang-Rajabasa still had a level of service (LOS) C and the opposite direction had a level of service (LOS) decreased to level D. This indicated that changes geometric form ofthe road isn’t too increasing the level ofservice (LOS) significantly.
