- In this paper the determination of optimal die clearance conditions in sheet metal cutting is presented. The sheet metal cutting process is approached through finite element simulations using Deform2D software. The cutting condition variable is clearance between punch and die. The clearance value variations are 3%, 5% and 6%. These clearance variations referred to some literatures in the sheet metal cutting processes. The output parameters or results in the sheet metal cutting simulations are stress and cut thickness. The magnitude of the results of the simulation stress range between 830-832 MPa and cut thickness of the simulation process results ranged from 1.065 to 1.246 μm. The optimal simulation results are analyzed using ANOVA approach. The effect of clearance on the quality of sheared surface is also presented. Key words:blanking process, die clearance, finite element simulation, ANOVA
