Daftar Isi:
- Energy crisis and environmental pollution force many people to save energy and find alternative energies or renewable energies. Renewable energy can be produced from crude palm oil (CPO), coconut oil, jatropha curcas, etc. The use of CPO directly into a diesel engine can lead negative effects on the engine, so CPO must be firstly transesterificated. The transesterification performed in this research was quite simple and used simple facilities. The transesterificated CPO was investigated on a diesel engine, one cylinder, at 1150, 1500, 2000, 2500, and 3000 rpm, with operating loads of 1 and 2.5 kg. Concentrations of CPO blended in the conventional diesel fuel were 0 %, 5%, 10%, 20%, 30%, and 40%, named with B0, B5, B10, B20, B30, and B40. The use of this simple transesterificated CPO for all concentrations produced higher engine performance compared with the conventional diesel fuel. The highest increase of brake power was 0.041 kW (3.950 %) occurring for use of B20 at 1150 rpm, whereas the highest decrease of brake specific fuel consumption was 0.017 kg/kWh (11.699 %) occurring for use of B10 at 1500 rpm. Both occurred at the operating load of 2.5 kg. Keywords : CPO as biodiesel, transesterification, diesel engines performance.
