- The problem of double burden - problem of being overweight and underweight - occur in Indonesian society nowadays. Both conditions can affect change in salivary secretion, salivary buffer capacity and metabolism, all of which can increase the risk of dental caries and periodontal disease. Purpose: The objective of this study is to determine the correlation between Body Mass Index (BMI) scores with DMF-T (Decay Missing Filling-Teeth) scores and modified Community Periodontal Index (CPI) scores. Methods: The research method used was analytic correlation with case control study design. The sampling method used in this study was the quota sampling technique. The Case samples were 30 people, consisting of 15 people with BMI scores of < 18.5 and 15 people with BMI scores of > 25. The control samples were 15 normal people with BMI scores of 18.5 - 25. Each sample was tested for DMF-T index and modified CPI. All data obtained were analyzed using Chi-Square and Rank Spearman statistical tests. Results: The results of this study showed that 57% of the samples had a very high caries index and 33% had periodontitis. The result of statistical test of the correlation between BMI scores and DMF-T scores showed p-value of 0.012 (p <0.05) and the result of statistical test of the correlation between BMI scores and modified CPI scores showed p-value of 0.026 (p <0.05). Conclusion: The conclusion of this study is that there is a significant correlation between BMI scores with DMF-T, and also between BMI scores with modified CPI scores.
