- Background: Skin agingisthemostcommondermatologicalproblemcausedby intrinsic andextrinsicfactor, suchasexposureto(ultraviolet)UVrays.Chlorogenic acid (CA)isaphenoliccompoundwhichisknownforitsantioxidantproperties against oxidativestress. Objective: This studyinvestigatestheantiagingandanti-inflammatory propertiesof CA onUV-inducedskin fibroblast cells. Methods: Anti-inflammatory propertiesofCAwereassessedbymeasuring inflammatory-relatedproteinsIL-1β and TNF-a, whileantiagingpropertiesofCA were assessedbymeasuringreactiveoxygenspecies(ROS),apoptosis, liveand necrotic cells,andCOL-3geneexpressionlevel. Results: Treating UV-inducedskin fibroblast cellswithCAdecreasedthelevelof ROS, IL-1β, TNF-a, apoptoticcells, andnecroticcellsandincreasedlivecellsand COL-3 geneexpression. Conclusion: CA hasthepotentialastheprotectivecompoundagainstinflammation and agingbydecreasingthelevelROS,pro-inflammatory cytokinesIL-1β and TNF-a, apoptoticcells,andnecroticcellsandbyincreasinglivecellsandCOL-3gene expression.
