  • Jakarta Bay has been known for its accumulation of organic and anorganic contaminant. The contamination is derived from land and river around the waters, that promote red tide and toxin producer. Among the harmful caused from blooming algae is a paralytic shellfish poisoning (PSP). PSP is a type of neurotoxin that attacks the nerve system by the active compounds of saxitoxin. The aim of this research is to determine the characteristic of green mussel from Jakarta Bay and the content of saxitoxin. Sample collection was conducted in October 2016, and further analysed until July 2017 in Chemical laboratory, Biotechnology laboratory and Instrumentation laboratory of Research Center For Marine and Fisheries Products Processing and Biotechnologi in Jakarta. The characteristic observation used 20 random sample of green mussel from Jakarta Bay (Cilincing, Kamal, and Kalibaru), while the analysis of saxitoxin was performed from different sampling locations that is in the area of Cilincing, Kamal and Kalibaru. Analysis of saxitoxin using ELISA (Enzyme Linked Immunosorbent Assay) method. ELISA is typically based on of interaction of antigen and antibodies performed in an ELISA plate. The result of ELISA is the development of colours that can be detected with spektrofotometer (wavelength 450 nm). The result from this study showed that characteristics of green mussel are average weight 4.24 g, shell length 45.3 mm, shell width 8.8 mm, and meat weight 1.58 g. . Further analysis indicated correlation of shell length and total weight is negative allometrik (b<3) with ratio between flesh and total weight 37.26%. the moisture of greenmussel from Cilincing, Kamal and Kalibaru were 79.28%, 80.07%, and 78.67% respectively, while the ash content were 1.93%, 2.26% and 2.23% respectively. The physic-chemical parameter of water in the study area was optimum for fitoplankton and green mussel. ELISA analysis showed that saxitoxin content in green mussel from Cilincing,Kamal and Kalibaru were 10.15 μg/100 g, 28.73 μg/100 g, and 21.24 μg/100 g respectively. With refer to SNI 3460.1:2009 concerning frozen shellfish meat specifications, the saxitoxin level in green mussels in these area is still below the threshold of 80 μg/100 g.
