- Music is a tool for musicians, such as the words that is a means for songwriters to uncover what you want delivered. The theme also varied depending on the musician. Love, relegi, political, social criticism, environmental, government and others. In the song "Siang Sebrang Istana" by Iwan Fals lyrics recount the struggles of the marginalized. Iwan Fals is one of those musicians who express social criticism through song. Idealism in music, the use of words containing figurative, and themes that are presented makes the author makes the lyrics of the song "Siang Sebrang Istana " Iwan Fals as a study in this research. The purpose of this study was to determine the significance of social criticism on the song "Siang Sebrang Istana'by using the approach of Teun A. van Dijk. Critical discourse analysis approach model Teun A. van Dijk include dimension text, dimension of social cognition and social context dimension.Dimensional structure of the text will analyze Macro, superstructure, and microstructure, and then discuss them into a dimension of social cognition and social dimensions of context to find the meaning of social criticism in the lyrics of the song "Siang Sebrang Istana". Analysis of the data of the lyrics done to make conclusions in describing the significance of social criticism in the lyrics of the song "Siang Sebrang Istana" by Iwan Fals.
