  • The catch of collapsible trap is fresh, live and have a high price. It get swimming crab, mud crab and babylon snail in Lontar water. The objectives of this research were to determine specification of collapsible trap, to describe fishing method of collapsible trap, to analyze catch composition of collapsible trap and to calculate the diversity index of it catch. The experimental fishing method was used in this study on 12 th April – 11 th May, 2014. The fishing vessel has dimension of LOA x B x D (6 m x 1.6 m x 0.9 m). The collapsible traps have dimensions of length 42 cm, width 28 cm and 17 cm high with a inclination funnel angle is 20° and mouth path length is 15.5 cm. It was covered by polyethylene mutifilament with mesh size 2.5 cm. Fishing operation was conducted in the morning and afternoon with longline system. It consisted of five stages: preparation, determine the fishing ground, setting, soaking and hauling. The main catch are blue swimming crab (Portunus pelagicus 20.09%), mud crab (Scylla serrata 3.88%) and babylon snail (Babylonia spirata 1.61%) as the target catch. The by-catch dominated by Nassarius dorsatus 25.61%, Strombus bifrons 18.48%, Charybdis affinis and others 17.51%. Diversity index of collapsible trap (H’) in is 2.0573 that indicates about high variety of cacth and low effectiveness of it. Keywords: catch, collapsible trap, diversity, Lontar water
