  • The use of ASTM A36 low carbon steel as the building material for the construction of modified pipes and tanks using the Electroless Ni-P coating process. This process aims to improve the properties that the ASTM A36 steel plate must have from its corrosion resistance. With variations in the effect of coating temperature and surface roughness and by the addition of the heat treatment process, the characteristics of the electroless Ni-P layer are in the form of corrosion rates, hardness, microstructure and percentage of nickel content analyzed. With a surface variation of 0.28 μm, 0.15 μm and 0.07 μm and a coating temperature variation of 60o C, 70o C and 80o C and with the addition of a heat treatment of 500o C for 120 minutes. The test results show that the more rough the surface and the higher the coating temperature causes the layer to have a better corrosion resistance value. The heat treatment process of 500o C for 120 minutes significantly increases the corrosion resistance value but cannot significantly increase the rockwell hardness test in the range of 70-80 HRB.
