  • ABSTRACT ii Fluctuating oil prices, the limited energy resources of petroleum and the onset of global warming issues intensify the search for new energy sources. Bioethanol is one of most prospective alternative energy, because of Research Octane Number (RON), heat of vaporization, flame speed are higher than gasoline also friendly environment energy. This testing will be focus on comparative study performance of 4 cylinder 2000cc petrol engine with bioethanol and gasoline mixture with variation of bioethanol percentage (0%, 5%, 10%, 15%) with loading lamp 200, 400, 600, 800 Watt, and rotation speed of engine 1500, 3000, 4500 rpm. Experiment results octane number increase about 33.33%. The motor power, torque, engine power increase between 29.30% - 37.36%, whereas for SFC decrease between 7.41% - 72.55%. The η thermal increase between 22.56% - 41.46%. Fuel mixture of gasoline and bioethanol can increase performance and prevent detonation and knocking because bioethanol has higher octane value than gasoline.
