  • This study aims to determine the effect of Problem Based Learning (PBL ) learning models on the motivation and cognitive abilities of students of SMAN 6 Kota Serang class X IPA 2 on mechanical energy material. Problem Based Learning (PBL ) learning models as independent variables, motivation and cognitive abilities as dependent variables. The population in the study were all class X students of SMA 6 Kota Serang in the academic year 2018/2019. This research consists of two classes: class X IPA 1 as the control class and class X IPA 2 as the experimental class. Data collection techniques using tests, questionnaires and test sheets, with a significance value of cognitive abilities of 0.000 <0.05 and student motivation of 0.000 <0.05 so that it can be concluded that the application of Problem Based Learning (PBL ) learning models affect cognitive abilities and motivation students of SMAN 6 Kota Serang on mechanical energy material.
